A collaboration between Udinese Calcio and Bluenergy Group, the project involves the installation of more than 2,400 photovoltaic panels that will cover three quarters of the stadium's roof, leaving the historic part of the venue untouched. The investment aims to achieve full carbon neutrality, making Stadio Friuli one of the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly stadiums in Europe and the first of its kind in Italy.
It is expected that during sunny days the stadium will be able to meet the total energy demand during matches, reaching a capacity of 0.996 MW. The total cost of the project is €1.35 million and the work is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2024.
Udinese Calcio's CEO Franco Collavino expressed pride in the completion of the project, highlighting its importance for sustainable development and the consolidation of Stadio Friuli's position as a model stadium. Also present at the inauguration of the work were representatives of the local authorities and Bluenergy Group, including Udine vice mayor Alessandro Venanzi and Bluenergy Group CEO Davide Villa.
The implementation of this project will not disrupt match schedules or fan access, as the works will be carried out in a non-invasive way. As a result, the stadium will be able to function normally and fans will be able to continue supporting their team without disruption.
International football returns to Udine
After a break of five years, international football will return to Bluenergy Stadium. The Azzurri national team, under coach Spalletti, will face the Israeli team here in a Nations League match. The match is scheduled for October 14.
There is a historic bond between Udine and the Azzurri jersey. Thanks to the friendliness of our people and the modernity of the venue, the Bluenergy Stadium, the national team will be welcomed with due respect. It is a great honour to host the national team again
- emphasises general manager Franco Collavino on Udinese Calcio's official website.
