Spain: When will Bernabéu be officially opened? The major modernization of Santiago Bernabéu is nearing completion. Although work is still ongoing and Real Madrid continues to announce increasingly newer and more spectacular investments that will make this stadium one of the most advanced facilities in the world, there is much speculation about its official opening.

Just a few more months…

According to information from elconfidencialdigital.com, the inauguration of the new Estadio Santiago Bernabéu will take place in mid-January 2025. However, this date has not yet been officially confirmed either by the company responsible for the investment or by Real Madrid, but Spanish media are convinced that it is almost certain.

According to these reports, the list of distinguished guests who would grace the opening ceremony includes names like the legendary singer Julio Iglesias. Meanwhile, the presence of the retired king Juan Carlos will add a touch of class to the event.

Despite ongoing renovations, Real Madrid's stadium has already become the cultural heart of Madrid. Over 200 events have been planned to date, including concerts by international artists such as Duki, Taylor Swift, and Aitana.

What about new metro station?

A few months ago, a project was announced that includes connecting Madrid's airport to the stadium via Line 8. However, the Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo, recently emphasized that for now, the focus is on carrying out key works to improve accessibility at the existing station. Nonetheless, demand studies will begin to document the potential need for building a new metro station near the Real Madrid stadium.

Jorge Rodrigo specified that this must be done gradually because this area of the city is already subject to too much construction. With the new station, the journey from Terminal 2 to Santiago Bernabéu would only take 15 minutes. Ultimately, the investment is expected to be completed just before the 2030 World Cup, costing approximately €50-60 million, with funding to be provided by Real Madrid's sponsor, Emirates Airlines.

Debut of new technology

During a recent match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, a special 360° screen debuted. As part of the project, over 3700 square meters of LED screens were installed. With this LED screen configuration, Santiago Bernabéu stadium will be at the forefront of technology and on par with the best stadiums in the world. These video screens will assist the club in providing exceptional experiences both during football matches and for numerous other uses of the stadium in the future, said Ivan del Rio, regional manager at Daktronics, the company responsible for this investment.
