USA: First-ever stadium for women's team ready Most of the 14 teams in the league rent stadiums or, if owned by a Major League Soccer club, play in facilities built for men. However, building an arena specifically for a women's soccer team is not unique to the United States alone, but on a global scale.

A new chapter in the history of women's soccer

The 11,500-seat stadium, almost entirely privately financed, will be inaugurated on March 16, when Current plays against the Portland Thorns. Current's predecessor, known as FC Kansas City, played at various times at a high school soccer stadium, a college soccer stadium and the training ground of MLS club Sporting KC before it collapsed in 2017.

It raises the bar. People are going to want to be there. They are going to want to be in Kansas City. And I think that’s going to cause a ripple-effect globally, putting forward elite facilities for women athletes, Chris Long, Chairman, CEO and Portfolio Manager, told The Associated Press.

Indeed, interest in the new stadium and the matches to be played there is very high. However, many fans choose to watch the game on TV and for entertainment they move to the internet. For this, quite a few check us online casinos, where they find reviews and ratings of the US's top-rated online casinos for real money.

Bold decision, efficient construction

In September 2021, the owners of Kansas City Current announced plans to build a new training facility in the suburbs, at a cost of $15 million, to serve the club. On October 26, 2021, meanwhile, intentions to build a new, soccer-type stadium for Kansas City Current were made public.

The design of the facility will be prepared by Generator Studio, with JE Dunn and Monarch Build as the main contractors. A slightly modified concept for the new stadium was presented in May 2022, including lighting embedded in the canopy instead of the four light poles originally planned. Construction began in the fall of 2022.

Still, the construction of the stadium has not escaped criticism. Many are concerned about traffic congestion around the facility, others about the lack of parking spaces. The club recently announced that a space would cost $50 per game, and many fans reacted negatively to this news on social media; some even became outraged.

However, club members remain positive about the prospect of playing in the new stadium. Former US national team and now Current coach Vlatko Andonovski said: It definitely brings energy. When we trained in the stadium before going to Florida, the training was energetic and enthusiastic and intense, and we talked about: Can you imagine doing all of this with 11,000 people in the stands? It’s exciting, and I hope we can use it to our advantage.
