Ambitions against the background of economic development
Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Andrzej Gut-Mostowy stressed that Poland, given its current level of economic development, should already aspire to host the Olympic Games. Comparing Poland's situation to other countries that have applied to host the Games in the past, such as Greece and Spain, he pointed out that Poland will be at a much higher level of economic development 13 years from now.
Although Poland has expressed official interest in hosting the Olympics, it is not the only country with such ambitions. So far, Turkey, Mexico and Indonesia have also declared their desire to host the Olympics in 13 years. Soon, PKOl President Radoslaw Piesiewicz will hand over an official letter on the matter to IOC President Thomas Bach. The application must be submitted by 2025, and a decision will be made in 2026.
Which Polish stadiums are being considered for the Olympics?
One of Poland's main strengths in its bid for the Games is its developed communications infrastructure and its experience in hosting major sports events, such as Euro 2012 and the European Games. The deputy sports minister stressed that much will still change in the next 13 years, but Poland is already prepared to host such a big event. The plan is to make Warsaw the main center of the Games, with an Olympic town and other key venues, including a stadium PGE Narodowy. Stadion Śląski, on the other hand, is being considered as an athletics center.
Despite the enthusiasm of the authorities and many Poles, there are also those who are skeptical about such a huge undertaking. However, Deputy Minister Gut-Mostowy stressed that there is still plenty of time to convince skeptics of the idea of the Games in Poland, and appealed to sports circles and the media for support in this initiative. The 2028 Games will be held in Los Angeles, and the 2032 Games will be held in Australia. According to unwritten law, they should return to Europe in 2036.
