It used to be an amusement park, but Pleasure Island was closed in October 2016. Now the Grimsby Telegraph informs it’s considered as potential location for the construction of a new community stadium in North East Lincolnshire.
New papers released ahead of a special meeting next week, show that environmental consulting company SLR Consulting carried out a site visit to Pleasure Island on December 6, 2016, in order to gauge the viability of the site.
The park was ranked seventh out of the 17 possible sites that had been considered, with the Peaks Parkway location (as of yet the preferred one) having been ranked third.
The council will now, at a meeting of the Special Cabinet on Tuesday, February 28, decide whether or not to offer the stadium developer, Extreme Leisure, an option agreement for them to purchase the Peaks Parkway site, in order to "provide the necessary council commitment to enable and facilitate further investment into the Community Stadium project."
