From August the lower south stand will begin to change. This is where most vibrant supporters at Amsterdam ArenA are to gather in upcoming seasons and accommodating them will be possible thanks to several operations planned for this year.
First step in August is the addition of 97 seats at the top of the lower tier. Capacity of the stand won’t grow though, because some of the existing seats will have to be removed in order to make way for additional stairs in the central area.
In September the first portion of seats (200-300) are to be replaced by new rail seating system, part of the new safe standing area. Through October and November the entire lower stand will be converted into a similar modern and safe terrace.
Finally, ending the desired new stand, existing moat will be covered by 4 additional rows of seating, bringing the stand’s capacity to 5,086 people (and the stadium’s to some 54,000!). A new podium for the capo and drums will also be created there to help coordinate all supporters attending the terrace.
