As the 2015/16 season ends, we know who had the best-prepared football field in both the Bundesligas. Top of the highest league was won by VfL Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena. It’s the second award for Wolfsburg after the 2013/14 season, leaving last year’s leaders at Allianz Arena well behind.
Second place went to 1. FSV Mainz, whose stadium is transitioning names from Coface Arena to Opel Arena. Third came Borussia Dortmund, the only large club on the podium.
In the 2. Bundesliga the best field could be found at Red Bull Arena, which in the new season will be a Bundesliga stadium after RB Leipzig’s promotion. Second spot is the only award for Allianz Arena, this time for preparation to TSV 1860 games. Third place was taken by 1. FC Nürnberg.
As in previous years, Pitch of the Year awards were voted for by the German turf professionals at DRG, greenkeepers of the stadiums and players rating each field after games.
