On Monday supporters of AFC Wimbledon gave their support for Wimbledon to sell Kingsmeadow Stadium to Chelsea FC. Current English champions will use this place for reserves and ladies’ games. Chelsea already agreed to put forward a deposit of £600,000. Once the deal is finalized, two further installments would be made.
Next month, the shareholders will have their say. Plus, the club will need to formalize plans for the new stadium, get all the proper planning permissions, and also work out the final details of the deal with Chelsea. If all goes well, everything will be done by the summer of 2018.
Wimbledon need to sell Kingsmeadow as they’re preparing to relocate back to Plough Lane, spiritual home of the club. Its total cost may be around £20 million, which makes Chelsea’s offer a significant part of the financial scheme.
