Cardiff: Millennium Stadium to be renamed

For at least a decade the greatest stadium in Wales will be named Principality Stadium, along with latest naming rights deal.

The Welsh Rugby Union announced today it reached an agreement with Principality Building Society. The biggest Welsh company of its kind will team up with the country’s largest and most modern stadium from January 1, 2016.
Millennium Stadium will be renamed Principality Stadium until 2026. The deal is reportedly worth up to £15 million (€20.6m / $23m), which seems a rather modest amount regarding the size and status of Cardiff’s top stadium.
While the venue stopped hosting Welsh national games in football, it’s still the home of rugby and hosts numerous large-scale events. Just a year into the contract with Principality it’s expected to hold the Champions League final, having previously played host to the 2012 Olympics, among other.
