Though still under construction, the upgraded stadium in Almelo was opened yesterday. Sell-out crowd, electric atmosphere and high victory over NEC Nijmegen – a perfect set!

On Sunday evening Heracles Almelo was no longer among the Eredivisie teams with stadiums of under 10,000. While full capacity of 13,500 wasn’t reached just yet, it was sold out with 12,084 people last night. Even heavy rain and numerous leaks throughout the stadium didn’t deter fans from coming.
The reduced capacity and water leaking were just two of reminders that construction is in fact ongoing at Heracles Stadion. No wonder, it’s only half a year since construction of the new upper tier began. By year end all infrastructure should be operating flawlessly.
No glitches were able to spoil atmosphere among fans, who first presented a very nice choreography in the stadium’s only standing terrace (besides the away section). Black-white flag illustrated the changes in both stadium and club crest as a new rendition of the latter was also celebrated yesterday.
As if this wasn’t enough to meet expectations, Heracles got a 3:0 win on the field, adding to the festivity.
