The total cost of the new Perth Stadium project is set to exceed $1.5 billion including transport infrastructure, significantly more than figures previously provided by the State Government.

New details of spending on the 60,000-seat stadium on the Burswood Peninsula were revealed in a Department of Sport and Recreation [DSR] budget estimates hearing last night.

Departmental officials confirmed the total cost of the contract with Westadium was $1.21 billion, which included the $912.3 million cost of designing, building, financing and maintaining the precinct.

Of that $1.21 billion, $422.8 million will be paid by the Government to Westadium as monthly payments over 25 years.

However, the $1.21 billion does not include the estimated $359 million in required public transport upgrades, bringing the total overall cost of the project to $1.57 billion.
