Today they hold only 13% of the stadium’s shares, but in medium term Ajax may become the majority shareholder of Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax managing director Michael Kinsbergen drew a plan for the club’s future. One of the possibilities is acquiring majority of shares in Amsterdam ArenA. This would allow “De Godenzonen” to have much more influence on stadium management and improve revenue, further stabilizing Ajax economically.

The medium term vision won’t be implemented by Kinsbergen, who leaves the club in July. But before his successor takes over, the plan must go through further consideration of Ajax senior executives.

Currently the team holds 13% of shares in Amsterdam ArenA. There’s no formal majority shareholder at this point, largest portion of shares is owned by the city of Amsterdam (48%). Along Kinsbergen’s vision Ajax would acquire 38% of shares to exceed 50% and have the final say in crucial matters.
