They’re 6 points ahead on top of the western third league table. If Austria Salzburg manage to keep that up, they’ll win promotion to the Erste Liga, domestic 2nd tier. That’s very impressive for a club that was destroyed completely by energy drink brand and recreated by supporters.
A less impressive, but also important success was reached yesterday, when the city planning committee voted in favour of alterations to the zoning plan in Maxglan. This change allows Austria to build a new south stand, indispensible if the team want to get license for Erste Liga.
However, the councilors weren’t unanimous. The vote passed by 6 to 4 and only on condition that overall capacity of the stadium remains at 1,566 even with the new stand. This measure is expected to assure that local residents won’t suffer from increased noise with the new stand.
The decision needs to be approved by regional authorities before Austria Salzburg can move forward with the expansion.
