No longer planned ‘somewhere near the city’, but just 900 meters away from the existing Glanford Park. The new 12,000-capacity stadium will be accompanied by 10 secondary football fields and planning application is due in 3 weeks.

Presented in January, the renderings of Scunthorpe United’s new stadium have placed it somewhere within/around the city. Now the final location is clear and it’s almost as close as possible to existing Glanford Park – just 900 meters south.
The stadium will lie just across the road from local lake and will be delivered as part of the Lincolnshire Lakes Project with commercial partners Lucent Group.

While the proximity of Glanford Park is positive in general, some supporters have been expressing skepticism regarding pedestrian access. Many of the fans usually walk to their stadium, while the new land is literally in the fields.
However, reaching it shouldn’t take more than a couple minutes more than today and the road access will be far better, seeing that the stadium is planned right along M181 with parking sites surrounding it.

Apart from the main stadium (12,000 capacity initially with potential to reach 18,000), Scunthorpe United plan to have up to 10 secondary football fields beside it. Five of them will reach full size, half will be significantly smaller. They will provide both the playing conditions for reserve/youth teams and United’s training academy. Altogether the site will be around five times the size of existing Glanford Park’s surface, including parking sites.
Scunthorpe want to keep the entire project within £18 million ($30m / €23m) and will be the sole owners once it’s done. Planning application is expected to be filed on August 18.
