The scheme worth AU$250 million is a step from design and contractor selection. Stadium Australia Operations are expected to view detailed proposals within days and publish them this summer.

As emphasized already in 2013, Stadium Australia Operations need external funding for a significant upgrade of Sydney’s largest stadium. ANZ Stadium is already 15 years old and needs to meet new standards to keep up with changing infrastructure both domestically and internationally.
The plan to reach new goals is clear since last year: retractable roof, moving stands behind both goals, additional commercial outlets around the stadium, among other features. In recent days the scheme moved a great deal towards its final version.
As presented today by Stadium Australia Operations, there are two finalists shortlisted to design and carry out the projected alterations. Laing O’Rourke and Brookfield Multiplex both have already created detailed designs, budgets and time frames for their works, which they will present to the operator within days.
Then, in a few weeks from now (up to five, reportedly) the plans will be evaluated and presented publicly, expected to go into implementation next year. Worth noting, however, is the fact that the AU$250 million scheme is yet to receive funding from New South Wales state government. ANZ Stadium stands in competition with Allianz Stadium for the grant.
