Decision to abandon the game against Greek side Atromitos was made after almost an hour of the game, as lights went out and smoke started was visible coming from inside the main stand. The match was finished today.

As the clash between AZ Alkmaar and Atromitos Peristeri at AFAS Stadion was looking worse for the home side (0:1 and one man down), yesterday’s Europa League 4^th round qualifier was stopped. This came after lights went out and smoke started coming from inside the main stand.

Emergency scheme was introduced instantly and is today judged as very well carried-out. None of the 11,569 people in attendance was hurt.

It turns out it was the fire that caused lighting malfunction as it started in the very box that controls this system. Fire hasn’t spread much, thankfully, and was extinguished soon after it was noticed.

The game was finished today and saw the Greeks just a step from making it into group stage. They scored another goal and with 2:0 in Alkmaar the aggregate was 3:3. AZ still went through on away goals.
