Yesterday Cardiff City filed their planning application for Ninian Stand expansion in the east of their stadium. Sections opposite the main grandstand are to grow by 5,000 regular seats (upper deck) and a corporate balcony between current seating and the new upper tier.
This first phase of Cardiff City Stadium expansion will see the ground grow to roughly 32,000-33,000 seats. Club’s application should be discussed in September by Cardiff planners and should it be approved, works may start already in October. The club are hopeful to get this phase done by next season, in July 2014.
Altogether the stadium is to grow to some 38,000 seats. Further phases will see end stands grow by 3,000 seats each.
Worth noticing is the shift in colours of the stadium. When introducing his extremely controversial scheme of changing club colours, new owner Vincent Tan agreed for the stadium to remain blue. After the overhaul it may become red, though.
