Scotland: Match abandoned after fan’s death

Scottish Premier League fixture between Kilmarnock and Hibernian was stopped in 54th minute and abandoned after a life-long supporter collapsed. Despite paramedics’ effort he died.

In 54th minute of Sunday’s game at Rugby Park a dramatic accident took place. 49-year-old James Haswell collapsed in the East Stand. Paramedics were called by other supporters, but despite attempts to revive him, the lifelong fan of Kilmarnock FC was announced dead after arriving at the hospital.
Referee stopped play once he noticed the rescue efforts and eventually decided to abandon the entire match at 1:1, having consulted the police and managers.
Most probable cause of death was heart attack.
