Yesterday 1. FC Nürnberg and Grundig representatives announced their naming rights contract for the 2006 World Cup venue. Over a period of 4 years the Turkish-capital company will pay some €3.2 million, €800,000 every year.
The deal is effective already and will last until mid-2017. The club were searching for a new sponsor for one month after the deal with easyCredit ended last year. Previous name was much unloved by supporters and criticized even by municipal officials.
Some fans refused to accept the former name (or in fact any sponsored name) and adopted their own naming, making club legend Max Morlock the patron of the unique, octagonal stadium.
