It would most likely be among Euro 2020 venues if not for UEFA’s decision to change the formula. But now the new 42,000-seater in Konya faces a different problem as general contractor went bankrupt.

Already as works were beginning in mid-2012 construction company Gintaş announced that winter time will see little works, possibly even a seize at the site. But currently almost deserted plot isn’t a result of such a move, it’s much worse.

Gintaş filed for bankruptcy in early December and by Dec 31 the court announced that Konya’s contractor went bust.

This means that works that were nearly stopped for weeks, may be halted for some more time. We have no solid information as to when and who may step in for Gintaş, nor how would the situation influence the budget or timeframe. It is believed the stadium may still be delivered within projected deadline.
