Qatari authorities met recently to sign cooperation agreements between Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee and five other entities: Qatar Rail, Ashghal, Kahramaa, Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatari Diar. These are to be the main stakeholders in preparations for Middle East’s first World Cup.
During that meeting information was released on future stadiums of the tournament. Most advanced one is the Education City Stadium. We had a chance to see what is supposed to be its final design several months ago, now there is news of construction start in 2013, 9 years ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
Five more stadiums are currently either in design or tendering phases. Tenders for project management and design consultant for the Al Wakrah Stadium have been issued and winners to be announced in November and December.
The project management tender for the redevelopment of Al Rayyan Stadium has also been issued and will be awarded in the first quarter of 2013.
