It’s been a few days now since first trucks started arriving on site in Marseille with elements of the two massive Demag CC6800’s. To organize transport a fleet of 120 tractor-trailers and 60 smaller trucks was engaged.
One of the crawlers (mobile cranes) was specially constructed in Germany to serve at the construction site in Marseille. The other one was dismantled in Norway and transported all the way to southern France. This was necessary as there are just a few of such machines in Europe.
One CC6800 weighs 29 tons and can lift up to 1,250 tons of load. Thankfully in Marseille they won’t have to as the largest segments of roof structure, compiled on site, will weigh up to 190 tons.
