Initial stadium was opened here on March 31st 1912, but did not survive to this day, destroyed during WWII. After 1947 it was reactivated to reach capacity of around 30,000 in 1960’s and a record attendance of 32,078 in 1963, when MTK met Slavia Sofia.
Since then the ground was not modernized too much, though. In 1987 floodlights were installed and after 1995 more and more seats started emerging. Their number stopped at around 5,700 which led UEFA to allow only 5,515 spectators for official games, despite official figure of 12,700, terracing included.
In 1986 The Scorpions played a gig here and in 2002 the ground received the current patronage of Nandor Hidegkuti, a then-deceased member of the “Gold Team” of 1950’s.
