What is the Super Bowl for Americans?

For Americans, the Super Bowl is an unofficial national holiday. The game gathers more than 100 million viewers in the US in front of their TVs every year, although there are certainly more people sitting in front of their devices. A common practice in the States is to hold so-called Super Bowl parties, which are celebrations combined with watching the game together. The day on which the NFL championship game takes place, Super Sunday, is second after Thanksgiving when it comes to consumer spending. Billions of dollars are spent on food, beer and gadgets on that day, which significantly fuels the country's economy.

However, man does not live by sport alone, because the Super Bowl is definitely more than that. Every year, during halftime, the biggest names of world music perform, and it is worth noting that they do it... for free. It is hardly surprising, as this is real "free" advertising for the artists, which is watched by 800 million people worldwide. In the history of the NFL finals, there have been performing stars such as Michael Jackson, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Madonna and Beyoncé. This year, the halftime show at State Farm Stadium will feature Rihanna. It is worth recalling that this is the same stadium that hosted the iconic Katy Perry concert during Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, when the singer was accompanied on stage by two sharks. The audience particularly remembered the one on the left.

Just as important to the entire show are the... commercial breaks. Unique spots dedicated to the Super Bowl are prepared especially for this occasion. The audience in front of TV sets makes the cost of broadcasting one 30-second commercial approximately $7 million. Trailers for major upcoming film productions are also often premiered during the event.

This year's Super Bowl will be special

In the fifty-seventh edition of the NFL league's most important game of the season, the National Football Conference (NFC) champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the American Football Conference (AFC) winners, the Philadelphia Eagles, will face each other. The former defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23:20 at their home venue, Arrowhead Stadium, in the conference final, while the Eagles triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers 31:7 at Lincoln Financial Field.

For Kansas City, it will be an opportunity to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the third time in history. In Philadelphia, they are hoping to achieve this feat for a second time. Spicing up element of the rivalry is the fact that the Chiefs coach is Andy Reid, who led the Eagles in the past and even managed to advance with them to the Super Bowl. This year, however, will see, above all, an unprecedented duel between the Kelce brothers - Travis, who plays for the Chiefs, and Jason of the Eagles. Never before in the history of the grand finale have any siblings played against each other.

Where and when will the Super Bowl take place?

This year, the most important game of the NFL season is scheduled for Sunday February 12. The show will start at 4.30pm local time. The arena for the big game, as mentioned earlier, will be the 63,400-capacity State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The Cardinals of the NFL play at the facility on a daily basis. This is the third time the Super Bowl will be hosted at this arena located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Before the start of the season a huge new 9 m by 35.5 m screen has been installed on the northside of State Farm Stadium. It will for sure present itself well during the game.

This year, the NFL league final will be held on neutral ground after a two-year gap. The edition two years ago was the first ever played in the stadium of one of the participants. At that time, Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers triumphed at Raymond James Stadium, winning... against the Chiefs 31:9. A year ago, the situation was repeated when the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23:20 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
